JANUARY 29-31, 2020

Dear Ohio Collegiate Director,

Each year, the Jazz Education Connection of Ohio sponsors a number of activities aimed at furthering jazz and jazz education in our state. Among the most important of these events is the JECO Intercollegiate Jazz Ensemble, which rehearses and then performs at the OMEA convention (January 29-31, 2020).

This collection of talent comes solely from Ohio colleges and universities, and all students are encouraged to apply whether they come from a giant jazz program or not (some of our finest players over the years have been from smaller, private schools). This group is to Collegiate Jazz Ensembles what All-State Jazz Ensemble is to Secondary institutions. We are hoping you will encourage your top jazz players to audition and represent your outstanding Jazz program.

  1. Be enrolled in at least 6hrs in an Ohio college and have a sponsoring professor who is a current JECO member. Saxophonists must have strong doubles. Also accepting auditions for Vocalists!

  2. Be current members of the Jazz Education Connection of Ohio.

  3. Be able to attend all rehearsals:

  • Rehearsal #1: January 18, 2020 (10 AM - 5 PM)

    • Location - Jazz Academy: 769 E. Long St. (4th Floor) Columbus, OH 43203

  • Rehearsal #2: Thursday January 30th (7-10 PM)

    • Location - Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, room 1402

PERFORMANCE - Friday January 31st 9:30 PM, Duke Energy Convention Center - Hall C*

*Please note: According to OMEA, all sessions and performances previously scheduled for the Millennium Hotel Grand Ballroom will now be held in “Hall C” of the Duke Energy Convention Center. This is on the first floor of the center and will actually be a much easier move-in for performing ensembles. All scheduled times will remain the same.

If accepted, students will be asked to pay a $25 participation fee, with no additional monies required to participate. The monies collected are used to help defray the cost of this year’s director, Steve Allee, from CCM at the University of Cincinnati. www.steveallee.com or Steve Allee Music on Facebook.

  • October 4th (or earlier): Post audition information for IJE

  • November 15th: Deadline for recording submission, email to jecojazz@gmail.com

  • December 16th, students will be notified of placement via email.

Thank you for your interest in the Jazz Education Connection of Ohio Intercollegiate Jazz Ensemble. Please let me know if you have any further questions.
