Scott Garlock
President

Dr. Scott Garlock has taught at Newton Falls Schools, Cuyahoga Falls
Schools, Mount Union College, and Knox College, and at Ashland
University. Scott served as director of bands at Knox College for 13
years, overseeing a program that included a concert band, a big band,
six combos, including a Latin Jazz Conjunto. Though only a school of
1100, the Knox Jazz Ensemble won collegiate jazz festivals at Western
Illinois University and at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. At
Ashland University, Scott serves as the Assistant Band Director and
conducts the Ashland University Jazz Orchestra, Combos, and teaches the
low brass studio. The AUJO has performed overseas twice since Scott's
arrival.
Scott has given numerous clinics on the recruitment and retention of low
brass students at state and national music conventions. He also served
as the Illinois representative for the International Association of Jazz
Educators and was a consultant for a recent edition of Jazz Styles and
Analysis. As a performer, Scott (a Jupiter Wind artist) has been
featured with Sarah Vaughan, Tony Bennett, Diane Schuur, Carl Fontana,
Paquito dRivera, Louie Bellson and others in addition to recording over
100 commercials and albums, including the Surprise of Being w/ Cleveland
Jazz Orchestra w/ Joe Lovano. He also performed in the Knox-Galesburg
Symphony, the Quad City Symphony, the Peoria Symphony, the Ashland
Symphony Orchestra, and is a member of The Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, The
Cleveland Pops Orchestra and Mansfield Symphony Orchestra. |

Jay Miglia

Jay Miglia is an active member of the jazz community as a teacher, saxophonist and composer. He currently holds teaching positions at Capital University and Otterbein College, where he serves as Jazz Studies Coordinator, and has taught classes for the Jazz Arts Group’s Jazz Academy since 2005. Jay regularly appears around the Midwest in clubs and concert settings, as a sideman on recordings, and as a backup musician for an array of jazz and popular music celebrities. He is a long-time member of the Famous Jazz Orchestra and subs often in the Columbus, Cleveland and Toledo Jazz Orchestras. Jay’s music has been performed by colleges and high schools around the Midwest and has recently been recorded by the University of Illinois Concert Jazz Band. Jay currently serves as jazz chair of OPCICA and as secretary of the Jazz Education Connection of Ohio.

Steve Crissinger

Steve CrissingerAs one of the founding partners of 12 Points Graphics & Apparel, Steve Crissinger has enjoyed the opportunity to utilize the lessons learned from his time in the Capital University Big Band both his personal and professional life. Upon graduation from Capital University with a degree in history and minor in music, Steve was presented the opportunity to serve as a professional staff member for the Simon Kenton Council, BSA. During a successful tenure with the Boy Scouts of America he gained valuable experience in non-profit administration, operations and fundraising. In 2004, Steve and two partners launched 12 Points Graphics & Apparel which is a screen-printing and embroidery company based in Columbus, Ohio. Since that time 12 Points has enjoyed great success and experienced consistent growth in all markets enabling them to become a licensee for Boy Scouts of America and to serve as the primary merchandiser for several prominent organizations in the music industry. Steve serves as the District Finance Chairmen for the Tri-Creek District in the Simon Kenton Council, volunteers as an advisor to the Senior High Youth Group at his church and serves as an alumni advisor for the Capital University Jazz Studies Department.

Jeff Boehm President's Advisory Board

Jeffrey D. Boehm, Ph.D. is Professor of Music at Bluffton University
in Bluffton, Ohio. Boehm's duties at Bluffton include directing the
Bluffton University Concert Band, coaching the Bluffton University Brass
Society, teaching courses in music education and orchestration
composition and arranging, as well as supervising student teachers. Dr.
Boehm also teaches in the general education curriculum as well as
serving on various committees. He holds a Ph.D. in Music Education and a
Masters in Music (Trumpet) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a
Bachelor's of Music Education Degree from Otterbein College, and a
Master's Certificate of Arranging from Berklee School of Music Online.
He is a 1978 graduate of West Carrollton Senior High School in Ohio.
Dr. Boehm's teaching career has led him to several states, including
Ohio, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Iowa. He has taught beginning bands,
middle school junior high bands, high school concert, marching and jazz
bands, guitar class, music theory, men's choir, and directed several
musicals. Boehm's collegiate teaching experience also includes William
Penn College (University) and Otterbein College. Dr. Boehm is an also
eclectic performer, having played in pit orchestras, circus bands, jazz
bands, chamber orchestras and other chamber ensembles throughout his
career. He freelances around the Northwest Ohio area. Dr. Boehm's
professional association memberships include the Music Educator's
National Conference, the Ohio Music Education Association, Jazz
Education Network, TI:ME and WASBE. Dr. Boehm has served as Mentorship
Chair and Chair of Government Relations for the Ohio Music Education
Association. He is currently President-elect of the Jazz Education
Connection of Ohio.
